The
Harbour
Operates a drop-in centre in St
Luke’s Church Hall Broad Street, near to the bus station in town. It aims to make contact with
refugees and asylum seekers and to help them have access to services. More
volunteers are needed to welcome visitors to the centre and to give help
with some of the practical aspects at the centre such as cleaning and
sorting clothes or with small admin duties. For more information click
[ here ] or contact the centre on 01793 490876
Roundabout
Coffee House
Based in the Pilgrim Centre
in the centre of Swindon; need more
volunteers for counter and kitchen cover, also to befriend and welcome
customers. Would also like some help with fundraising as the project is
running at a deficit and struggling to keep going. Call Mary Willis on
01793 537642 to find out more.
Food Bank
Is a ground-breaking
concept designed to help individuals and families in crisis by providing
free emergency food until the appropriate agencies are in a position to
assist. Tinned and dried food is collected from the public at supermarkets,
churches, schools and other local groups and "banked" in a warehouse.
Food is then given to people in crisis as a result of referrals from registered care professionals such as Social Services, Health Visitors, and other carers working in the front line.
