The Friends of Christ Church next AGM is to be held on Wednesday 17th April 2024 at 2pm in Christ Church; followed by our Annual Lecture at 3pm. This year’s lecture theme is: Resurrection Art from Around the World by the Revd. Robert Jordan. Entry is Free but a donation is appreciated for the work of the Friends. All Welcome!

The Friends of Christ Church aim to enhance the beauty and usefulness of the building and grounds and encourage people to use them. The church is one of the few Grade II * listed buildings in daily use in Swindon and its graveyard and burial ground is an important greenspace at the heart of Old Town.

The Friends was launched in 2001 as a separate charity, to raise funds for repairing the church spire – a Swindon landmark. This was completed in 2006. Since then, we have been involved in the development of the new Community Centre@Christ Church, another beautiful building which is in constant use by our local community.

The church building was reordered in 2017 and is now lighter, warmer and more welcoming. The Friends purchased the projector and its shelf, part of a new audio-visual system for services, concerts and other events. They also donated an outside noticeboard and doormats to protect the beautiful new wooden floor. The Friends have spent legacies on the cleaning and refurbishment of the church organ. Contributions have also been made to the new roof, the refurbished south transept window, and landscaping work on the church grounds. Most recently we have paid for the installation of a device to allow the church clock to change automatically between GMT and BST.

The fundraising events and subscriptions, raised by the Friends of Christ Church, play a huge role in helping to maintain the fabric of the 171 year old building and its grounds.
