A prayer from the hill

2015-12-22T12:28:42+00:00

We had an inspiring prayer this morning that several people asked to hear again. It is based on an original prayer  “The Saint George-in-the-East Prayer”, from the church of that name at Wapping in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It was adapted slightly for our purpose by Brian Harris.

Christchurchpencil Loving Father,

we thank you for calling us to be the beacon of Christ’s light on the hill.

For the sake of our neighbours, our community and our world,

inspire us to shine with the light of your welcome,

your forgiveness,

your challenge

and your healing love;

in Jesus’ name:

Amen

Old Town Nativity Trail Competition

2015-01-02T20:30:53+00:00

In the weeks running up to Christmas, we are having a “Nativity Trail” around the shops of Old Town whereby you have to look in the shops listed below to find one figure that is in the Christmas storyKnit2. All our figures have been beautifully hand knitted by local volunteers and we hope will be readily identifiable. Other crib characters will not count – IT MUST BE A KNITTED ONE!

We hope the figures will be in place by the time the Christmas lights are switched on in Old Town and will remain in place until Christmas Eve.  If you would like to take part, write which figure you find in each of the shops listed with your name and age filled in.  The correct answers will be revealed at the Crib service at Christ Church which is at 4pm on Christmas Eve so bring your form back then or put it in the box at the back of Christ Church. Happy hunting!

Here is the list of shops taking part:-   You can download an entry form here.

Our Charity Christmas Market in Christ Church and its new Community centre was a great success.

We  had more than 40 local and national charities in attendance. There was lots to see and do – Father Christmas
was there! Great gifts for Christmas – and everyone supported their favourite charity in the process.
The day was organised by the Friends of Christ Church

Old Town Autumn Fayre is Winner!

2014-09-22T10:42:03+01:00

20140920_15112520140920_115347 20140920_121514 20140920_151104Hundreds flocked to The Old Town Autumn Fayre at Christ Church on Saturday 20th September and discovered the free to enter event was going with a swing.

The Bill Bailey Jazz band lent a jaunty atmosphere to the afternoon and quantities of real ale, copious tea and cakes and a huge variety of stalls and activities kept people coming back for more. Traditional games and vintage rides were a great hit with the children as well as climbing the church tower to do a spot of bell ringing! A big thank you is due to Old Town businesses and other private donors, too many to name individually, who made the day such a success. The quantity and quality of gifts, prizes and services to support the event was fantastic.

Special thanks also to the wonderful volunteers from Waitrose in Swindon who gamely manned the children’s activities and ensured they were a non-stop attraction. 20140920_113037
