Laurie PLocal artist Laurie Plant has been hard at work producing preliminary sketches and drawings for the Community Centre artwork project. He has been seen seated at his easel in a number of prominent locations across Old Town and there has been a great deal of interest in his work. Earlier this year, Cilla Slipper led an Old Town walk around the town to produce ideas for iconic locations or buildings to be included in the finished work. The local community have been invited to put forward their ideas for what landmarks or features make Old Town special. Laurie is excited by the project.

“I couldn’t have predicted how much interest I’ve had in the Christ Church Art Project.

So many people, hundreds, have stopped to look at the large, ambitious pastel and watercolour drawings I’ve been making around Old Town.
Everyone is joining in by offering ideas about the choice of Iconic buildings and places we have here. I’m trying to include them all in this art commission for our fabulous new Community Hall.
To follow the project, keep an eye on laurieplant.com and look out for the forthcoming exhibition of his other Iconic paintings of London and Swindon at The Museum and Art Gallery in Bath Rd.
The community Centre is due to be open in early November.
