Alpha Course

2014-05-19T12:57:16+01:00

Alpha at Christ Church: our next Alpha Course will run on Tuesday evenings from May 13th 7.30pm-9.30pm in the CC@CC.

Alpha is an introduction to the Christian faith course which is being run in 176 countries across the world and throughout Great Britain. On Tuesdays over the next 10 weeks, we are holding an Alpha course. Alpha provides a non threatening, friendly and honest environment to consider the questions:

  • Why am I here?
  • What is the point of life?
  • Does life matter?
  • Is there a God?

Each evening starts with food and chat at 7.30pm, there is a talk over coffee, and then time for discussion – straight talking encouraged, fun guaranteed! Alpha ends at 9.30pm.

You can see a programme of topics for discussion here and download a form to join up.

If you are not sure then why not come to the first taster session on 13th May – no obligation but do let us know you are coming so we can plan food for you.

Ring Simon 529166 or Ailsa 522832 for more details or email the parishoffice@christchurchswindon.co.uk

Volunteers to support Alpha

We are also looking for volunteers to support Alpha in these areas: administration, prayer, publicity, preparing food, preparing tables with flowers, clearing away, washing up. Ideally we would like groups of people involved such as housegroups. Above all we would really appreciate you passing the word around and inviting friends to come and find out.

A Resurrection prayer from Christ Church New Zealand

2014-05-28T12:16:19+01:00

cc2God of Many names

Lover of all peoples

We pray for peace in our nations

and in our world.

We pray for all who have the awesome responsibility of

power and decision -making.

CC1

The Cathedral was badly damaged during the 2011 earthquake. The Cardboard cathedral is a bold but controversial transitional replacement. Read about it here.

We pray for the innocent victims of violence and war.

Lead us and the peoples of the world

from death to life, from falsehood to truth.

Lead us from despair to hope, from fear to trust.

Lead us from hate to love, from war to peace.

Let peace with justice fill our hearts,

our world

our universe

Links with Zambia

2014-05-05T21:07:55+01:00

For many years Swindon Town Community Trust run by Jon Holloway and Clive McGuire have developed an outstanding link with the community of Livingstone in Zambia. This has involved several visits sharing coaching and refereeing skills especially in local schools.

This April for the first time a return visit has been organised. The photo below shows the Club Chaplain welcoming the 2 players and 3 coaches to the Vicarage for tea and football in the garden. They will all be attending Christ church this Sunday.
zambiaIn the photo the coaches are Baia Soko, Patrick Kasoka, Fillard Bwalya and players Mwikisa Sinyama and Albert Siwakui.
There will be displays in the Community centre next weekend
On Monday the  High Commissioner of Zambia , H.E. Mr Paul Lumbi, is due to arrive at 11am, He will be accompanied by Iyake Mushingi, the Economic Counsellor for a gathering to celebrate the link between Swindon Town football club and Livingstone Zambia.
Please remember the visit in your prayers.

Christ Church loves weddings

2014-05-05T21:02:50+01:00

Chris & Emma-1185On Saturday 26th April 11.00 – 15.00, there is a Wedding Inspiration day in the Community Centre at Christ Church. The event is organised by TINKERJO ( Contact Jeanette on 01793 432769 for more information). Come along and be inspired with ideas for your special day – bespoke, vintage, stylish, traditional -they are all there –  whatever your theme or venue.

The church will also be open and decorated, as if for a wedding ceremony.  There will also be a photo display of the many weddings which have been held over the past 160 years in the churchTJ.  Come and see what a beautiful venue is available on your doorstep.  There will also be people available who will be happy to answer your questions about church weddings, help you plan the ceremony and hopefully dispel many of the myths.

You can also find out more about Marriage in Christ Church on our website here.

Garden of Reflection Nears Completion

2014-05-05T21:03:47+01:00

Following a constant battle with one of the wettest winters for many years, Christ Church’s new Garden of Reflection is nearing completion. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the ground work team of Rob Andrews and Connor Hurst who struggled with the elements to complete the work on time, the final hard landscaping has been finished. On days of torrential rain and driving wind, Rob and Connor could be found wheeling tons of top soil and barrows of concrete and sand up to the site.

The site of the new garden was, for many years, a rubbish and burning area for the burial ground but it was felt that the location, with its splendid view of the church and its quiet aspect, would make a fitting place of peace and reflection for those visiting the church and grounds. The garden was designed by Rachel Titcombe, who won our Garden design competition last year. Now that things have started to dry up, some planting is underway and we are beginning the process of cleaning up and patching up the damaged grass and verges to complete the work. Our thanks go to Rachel, Rob, Connor and to Ian Handy who directed and co-ordinated the work. The end result will be something we can all be proud of.

We are planning to put some benches in the garden and are inviting donations towards these and the completion of the planting in the garden. If you would like to make a donation or find out more about the garden then please contact Stephen Grosvenor on s.grosvenor@gmail.com or 07885 217077
