{"id":2504,"date":"2018-02-09T20:14:32","date_gmt":"2018-02-09T18:14:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.christchurchswindon.co.uk\/blog\/?p=2504"},"modified":"2018-03-25T14:53:04","modified_gmt":"2018-03-25T12:53:04","slug":"swindon-music-festival-back-in-christ-church","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.christchurchswindon.co.uk\/blog\/2018\/02\/swindon-music-festival-back-in-christ-church\/","title":{"rendered":"SWINDON MUSIC FESTIVAL BACK IN CHRIST CHURCH!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After the completion of the reordering work inside Christ Church, the 109<sup>th<\/sup> Swindon Music Festival returns there on Friday 16<sup>th<\/sup> March at 6.30pm with the church organ classes. \u00a0Each organist will play two contrasting pieces\u00a0and then the adjudicator will make comments on their performances.<\/p>\n<p>Following the organ classes is one class for adult novice solo singers.<\/p>\n<p>The evening will be rounded off\u00a0with adult choir classes. \u00a0\u00a0In the church choir class, starting at around 8.35pm, St. Sampson\u2019s Church Choir, Cricklade will be singing the hymn \u201cI come with joy\u201d to the tune St. Botolph and \u201cUbi Caritas\u201d \u00a0by Ola Gjeilo.\u00a0 Christ Church Choir will be singing the hymn \u201c There\u2019s a Wideness in God\u2019s Mercy\u201d to the tune Corvedale and \u00a0John Rutter\u2019s \u201cFor the Beauty of the Earth\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The evening will conclude with the adult choirs class.\u00a0 This will include the Swindon Gilbert and Sullivan Society singing \u201cThe Long Day Closes\u201d and also \u201cHail Poetry\u201d from their forthcoming performance of \u201cThe Pirates of Penzance\u201d, which is at the Arts Centre from 17-21<sup>st<\/sup> \u00a0April.\u00a0 The adjudicator for the Friday evening will be Christopher Daly, who has been a general adjudicator for music festivals since 2004 and is a member of the Friends of Cathedral Music.<\/p>\n<p>The Festival continues on Saturday 17<sup>th <\/sup>\u00a0March and from\u00a0 Monday 19<sup>th<\/sup> to Saturday 24<sup>th<\/sup> \u00a0in the Arts Centre in Devizes Road, Old Town.\u00a0 A trio from the Partnership of Churches will be performing at 7.45pm on Friday 23<sup>rd<\/sup>, and there will be lots of solo performances on Saturday 24<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0 March.<\/p>\n<p>The Festival deserves a much bigger audience \u2013 this year it celebrates 109 years of supporting music in Swindon. \u00a0Previous participants have included Diana Dors in the past, and Jamie Cullum, Sarah Covey and Polly Leech who are all forging current musical careers.\u00a0 Previous adjudicators have included David Willcocks (1950, 1951 and 1955), Isobel Baillie (1966) and composers such as Armstrong Gibbs (1928, 1934), Edgar Bainton (1929), Sydney Northcote (1961) \u00a0and Eric Thiman (1973).<\/p>\n<p>There is such a wide variety of music that there will be something for everyone during the eight days.\u00a0 We really need to support the young talent &#8211; and the older competitors like support too!\u00a0 At a previous year\u2019s final concert the adjudicator said several performances would have graced the West End stage \u2013 so come and hear future stars.
