What’s happening at the side of the Church?

2023-08-15T10:57:37+01:00

Visitors to the grounds may have noticed some work being carried out on the North side of the church.

Originally, there was a path linking the West end to the East end thus avoiding visitors to the burial grounds and Memorial Gardens having to do so via the car park.

As part of our plans to improve access, we have decided to re-instate the path.  The newly laid tarmac path will provide level access to the rear of the church by adding a small spur that will make disabled access easier by avoiding the 3 steps that currently link the path.

The work is being carried out by kind donation from a friend of Christ Church. In the future,  we would like to extend the lighting to include the path.

If you would like to support this work with a donation then please contact the parish office on 01793 522832 or christchurchswindon.co.uk

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

2021-01-29T15:15:56+00:00

The day when the victims of genocides the world over are especially remembered, Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place on Wednesday 27 January, and it will again be marked in Swindon.

HMD 2021 marks 76 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945 and 2021 is also the 76th anniversary of V-E Day, the end of the Second World War.

Due to Covid19 restrictions, there will be no live ceremony by the Cenotaph. At 12 noon on Wednesday 27th January there will be a short ceremony via Zoom online for Swindon.

Attendance is by invitation only. Anyone with sincere and authentic interest in marking this day is welcome to join the online ceremony. To receive an invitation, link, and password, please contact matt@lowershawfarm.co.uk

Further information, and a more national perspective, about Holocaust Memorial Day, can be found on the internet, at www.hmd.org.uk

Our Roof Appeal

2019-09-08T15:18:14+01:00

Over the past 5 years, Christ Church, with the help of its congregation, supporters and Friends, have completed major works to rebuild its new Community Centre, renovate the church interior to make it welcoming, accessible, warm and well lit.

Now we need to finish the job by replacing our aging roof which will secure the building for years to come. Much of the work has already been done but the high level access afforded by the roofing scaffolding has revealed the need for masonry, glazing and other works which we need to address. Your donation will allow us to complete this once in a lifetime repair.

Please help us to preserve the building for future generations.

Would you like to sponsor one of our ridge stones in memory of a loved one? Then please contact us at news@christchurchswindon.co.uk or click below to find out more

The Christ Church Renewal Project – 17th January 2017

2017-04-26T19:54:52+01:00

For some years Christ Church has been planning a renovation project which aims to make the building more accessible, warmer, lighter and more flexible for use by both its congregation and the local community. This involves the installation of new heating and lighting systems, a new wooden floor giving level access across the church, improved audio and visual facilities as well as the removal of the side aisle pews and a new storage area in the North transept. The central pews will be retained as now although the 3 smaller pews at the rear of the church will also be removed to enable new radiator positions and to provide more space in the welcome area.
