Ride & Stride 13th September 2014

Cycle ride

It’s time to oil your chain and polish your cycle helmet. It’s the Historic Churches Trust – Ride & Stride day on Saturday 13th September. Use the list of Wiltshire churches to plan your route and see how many historic churches you can visit in a day. There are prizes for various age groups – you can choose to walk, cycle or even travel on horseback and seek out some lovely old (and some lovely new) churches. Refreshments and toilet facilities are provided in many churches – check the list to see who is offering what or look at our Google map of churches.

This year there is the added bonus of a send off by the Archbishop of Canterbury for those organised enough to start at St. Mary’s Lydiard Tregoze at 10.00am.

You can download all you need including a list of churches, sponsor sheet and information here – Church List Ride & Stride Pack

Alpha Course

2014-05-19T12:57:16+01:00

Alpha at Christ Church: our next Alpha Course will run on Tuesday evenings from May 13th 7.30pm-9.30pm in the CC@CC.

Alpha is an introduction to the Christian faith course which is being run in 176 countries across the world and throughout Great Britain. On Tuesdays over the next 10 weeks, we are holding an Alpha course. Alpha provides a non threatening, friendly and honest environment to consider the questions:

  • Why am I here?
  • What is the point of life?
  • Does life matter?
  • Is there a God?

Each evening starts with food and chat at 7.30pm, there is a talk over coffee, and then time for discussion – straight talking encouraged, fun guaranteed! Alpha ends at 9.30pm.

You can see a programme of topics for discussion here and download a form to join up.

If you are not sure then why not come to the first taster session on 13th May – no obligation but do let us know you are coming so we can plan food for you.

Ring Simon 529166 or Ailsa 522832 for more details or email the parishoffice@christchurchswindon.co.uk

Volunteers to support Alpha

We are also looking for volunteers to support Alpha in these areas: administration, prayer, publicity, preparing food, preparing tables with flowers, clearing away, washing up. Ideally we would like groups of people involved such as housegroups. Above all we would really appreciate you passing the word around and inviting friends to come and find out.

Community Centre Open Day

2014-01-20T01:04:00+00:00

hall1Saturday 18th of January is a very important day for our community – it marks the official opening of our new Community Centre and is a major opportunity to introduce its facilities to the wider Swindon public. It will also give us a perfect opportunity to thank all those who over the past 18 months have provided valuable advice, information and support to ensure that the project was completed.

The day is in 3 main parts – the official opening ceremony to be carried out by businessman and TV personality, Nick Hewer of Apprentice and Countdown at 11.15am on Saturday 18th. At the same time we will be unveiling an important new art work by local artist Laurie Plant celebrating the central role that Christ Church  plays in the life of Old Town and Swindon. We will also be introducing the new Garden of Reflection designed by Rachel Titcombe, a local landscape designer – and marking the repositioning of the Morris memorial to the garden with surviving members of the Morris family. ( William Morris founded the Swindon Advertiser in 1854 and his descendants have played a significant role in the life of Swindon since then).

The opening ceremonies will be followed by an open day allowing the community to take a good look around the centre, meet Chris Smith our Development Manager and find out more about the centre and the local groups who are beginning to move into it. Refreshments will be served throughout the day from 11.30 – 3.30.

In the evening, you can sample the centre for yourselves – come and take part in our Family Friendly Quiz evening at 8.00pm. Tickets in advance if possible to avoid disappointment from Chris Smith 07582 305760 or s.grosvenor@gmail.com.  07885 217077.
